The University of Southampton has achieved a position of national and international leadership in Artificial Intelligence, built on a track record of innovation in AI research. From our work in expert systems in the 1980s, knowledge management in the 1990s, media modelling in the 2000s, to our current research on data sharing, language models, and the future of work, we now lead the UK's efforts to develop responsible AI, advise the UK government on AI skills, and work with the UN on international AI governance.
